The first book that started an entire mountain of imagination, creativity, and growth. Green Pea, "Not A Home For Me!"
It's October 2011 The Silent Reality is a month or so away from release. Three things are going through my mind. 1) Not everyone is going to like your work and that alright. 2) There's this little Pea looking for his home, he sees a Banana Peel/ Orange Peel and says, Not a home for meeee!"
3) I'm not a children's author. I'm a poet that writes poetry and short stories for around my age. 16 to Adult. Not a writer for Kindergarteners.
I was walking with Pascha in the Barrhead Co-op and I looked at her and said. I have this idea for a story that's been in my mind for a short while. With strong support from my mom, grandmother, and granddad. I began writing my first and only picture book. There were other books that need my attention like Under The Shield and The Silent Reality 2 The Secret Truth. Both of which I anticipate releasing this year.
Pascha was very open to drawing it. It couldn't be that hard to draw a circle with a smile right?
Part way through the illustrations I actually came up with a game to add to the story. Having the colour of the floor as a hint to the food on the next page. Ultimately making Pascha have to redraw at most a couple pages or at least one. I remember Pascha being quite stressed when doing the art work. All with coloured pencils and still life in front of her. I remember a couple peeled oranges sitting on the table as she figure out the angle and peel direction to draw. As you can see in the picture below, Pascha drew the illustration landscaped not portrait orientation. At the time we were well over our heads and had no idea what we were doing as Trafford Publishing only does portrait layouts.

I will say Pascha went above and beyond with this book and when we sent the book out what we received is not what we expected back and she did this book tirelessly to finish this book quickly.
When the book was completed and sent to Trafford we were surprised with the layout they set with this book but found it acceptable but it's not the Intended Vision we had in mind.

Over 14 and a half years later and nearly 30 books completed it's time to begin recognizing the past. There's some poetry to the realization that this year is the release of Green Pea, Not A Home For Me!" Everyone that that I read Green Pea, Not A Home For Me and Green Pea Counts One Two Three as a brand new book is graduating and becoming adults give or take a year. With upcoming quick stories I'm hoping to release later this year are really going to hit home whay I find 2026 a big year for myself as an author and the huge impact it's going to make on Author Squared stretching and growing my unknown potential. Something you will have to wait and see in the coming months and years.
With it being an updated book it receives a new author picture. With this new publication I wanted to fit with the style and theme of the original taken when I was seventeen years old. Taken in the same field, using the same clipboard.
Thank you for your time Chance Hansen
Keep Smiling
