Breaking into Page Break

Kendra is here and she want to have fun going through this book with you.

Kendra in front of a shopping mall.

I remember picking up Sesame Street's There's A Monster At The End Of This Book and thinking. I need to make a Chance-lation of this idea. I had the idea of our adorable girl greeting you on the first page but then struggling for the rest of the book to keep up with the reader, page after page. Maybe having the reader have to catch up to the character at one point.

The idea of making it about a shopping mall is all credited to Pascha as I originally was thinking about this book being far simpler. I never expected this book to look as cool as it does.

What I like about Kendra is how fun it is. It's a simple premise. Kendra want's to hang out with you at the shopping mall, but what makes this book stand out is she can't just can't follow along with a simple turn of the page. Adding a touch of inspiration from Tattered for the breakthroughs and Doris's Doors papercraft design to create the illusion she's separate from the background. (To Pascha's relief we did not actually destroy the hard earned effort of making detailed store backgrounds. We just covered them up.)

The next logical direction was to only have dialogue like Edit Away.  (Pascha used the inspiration of Speechless in the application of those speech bubbles)

A cool little detail I've waited years to reveal to all of you is originally this books wasn't meant to be called Page Break the working title was Page Chase. Page Break was actually the working title for Border Shift before it was applied to Kendra's. So when you see Doris reading Page Break she's actually reading Border Shift.

Never Give Up... Hope has held the record for most illustrations in a single book for 10 years now. As of this publication Page Break now holds that title. (excluding Missing Pieces over a technicality)

Page Break is huge standing at146 images (including the ones I created.) Cover to cover.

The first page alone has a total of 42 of those images. Never Give Up... Hope is now set at second place with 91 illustrations cover to cover.

Of those 42 mini pictures I had a lot of fun making some of these posters. Here are a few of our favorites. Just a quick look and you'll notice a few have a hilarious slight edge to them.

It's hard to believe I've reached 26 book releases already, three in the last two months and a surprise book release coming in next week along with Page Break.

Thank you for your time
